The Fan District is one of the most interesting areas in Richmond because of its unique architecture, restaurants, and local shops. Named for the fan-like layout of its streets, it runs westward from Belvedere Street, near Monroe Park, ending on the eastern side of the Boulevard. Predominantly a residential area, the Fan is a fun place to wander and admire the many styles of architecture from the mid-late 19th century, including Italianate, Queen Anne, Richardsonian Romanesque, and Colonial Revival. There is free on-street parking all around the property on N Arthur Ashe Blvd, N Mulberry St, Hanover Ave, and Grove Ave. Please be mindful of some parking signs in the area. The Fan is very walkable with many restaurants, cafes, small businesses, and grocery stores (including Whole Foods) nearby. You will find yourself well-positioned to get anywhere in the city within just a few minutes as you are close to the expressway and W Broad Street.
